More than one third of the newly diagnosed malignant tumours applies to the area of urological oncology. For example, this includes the prostrate carcinoma, the urethral carcinoma of the bladder and upper urinary tract, the kidney carcinoma, testicular tumours and penis carcinomas.
With new diagnostic procedures and further developments in all areas of therapy (surgical processes, immune, chemo and radiation therapy as well as the use of specific cancer therapies), the early recognition as well as the prognosis of this disease were improved. Yet, the heterogeneity of tumour biology and thus the progress of this tumour disease requires interdisciplinary planning, research, monitoring and subsequent treatment.
The objective of the Urologic Oncology Unit of the CCC Vienna is to facilitate the interdisciplinary collaboration and thus the individual care for patients in a specialised centre according to the most up-to-date knowledge. In addition, one of the core tasks of the CCC-UO is the implementation of high quality clinical and translational research projects and the expansion of education and further training at the highest level.
