The Vienna Summer School on Oncology (VSSO) is taking place biannually at the Medical University of Vienna alternating with the Summer School on Oncology at the collaborating University Medical Center at Groningen / The Netherlands. The goal of the VSSO is to teach a multidisciplinary approach in the field of oncology to medical students in the final phase of their studies. This tradition started back in 1999. Students typically receive the event quite enthusiastically regarding organisation, scientific content and topic range.
The next summerschool will be held between 15/07/2019 to 26/07/2019 at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria.
The registration fee of 630 Euro includes all lessons/sessions, accommodation (for time of Summerschool) and most meals during the course.
The aims are to help students becoming familiar with cancer-care in general health practice, to reduce fear from communicating with patients with a malignant disease and to gain an international perspective of cancer care by learning about cancer related problems in other countries.
The topics will include an overview on biological background, diagnostic approaches, clinical issues and psycho-oncology. Lectures are given by medical, radiation and surgical oncologists as well as by specialists in various other fields. The students will get the possibility to gain an insight into special cancer treatments and supportive care. After each session interested students will get the possibility to directly adress the lecturers for further discussion.
In order to cover most of the different fields in oncology the VSSO educational programme will have two parts: mornings will contain lectures for the whole group about general aspects in cancer; afternoons are mostly dedicated to workshops, mainly focusing on interventional or diagnostic procedures.
Further information will be posted here in due course.
