The Platform for Molecular Diagnostics and Treatment in Oncology of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Vienna, is a multidisciplinary project which combines the expertise in the personalised cancer therapy sector.
The objective is the promotion of individualised treatment of cancer patients, the fortification of multidisciplinary collaboration and the expansion of interdisciplinary research projects. The platform is managed in partnership by three disciplines: Pathology (Clinical Institut for Pathology, Leonhard Müllauer), internal oncology (University Clinic for Internal Medicine I, Gerald Prager) and Surgery (University Clinic for Surgery, Sebastian Schoppmann).
Personalised medicine
The objective of personalised medicine is the development of tailored therapy concepts for cancer patients. A targeted therapy can be selected and applied following the determination of the individual features of the tumour by way of immunohistochemical and molecular biological diagnosis procedures, which is tailor-made for the characteristics of this tumour. Maria Sibilia, Interim Manager of the CCC: "Personalised medicine is the future in oncology. It was therefore important to us to establish a centre which deals particularly with individualised treatment concepts."
