Clinical Practical Year (KPJ)

KPY-Tertial C "Interdisciplinary Oncology"

 

In the course of the three tertials of the clinical practical year, the Comprehensive Cancer Center Vienna provides education in the faculty of "Interdisciplinary Oncology" in the course of . Prerequisite for the application is the proof that at least one of the two other tertials (tertial A or tertial B) has been completed. Please direct your application for-tertial C "Interdisciplinary Oncology" to  kpj@ccc.ac.at.

During tertial C "Interdisciplinary oncology", the students are involved in the clinical care of cancer patients. They obtain deep insight into the diagnostic and therapeutic principles and learn the basic abilities of clinical patient care. In the process, special attention is paid to the planning of diagnostic and therapeutic steps, the communication with and the education of patients, the interpretation of molecular-pathological results and the application of supportive and palliative measures.

Requirements

Students wishing to apply for the KPY tertial C "Interdisciplinary oncology" have to have completed one of the two other KPY tertials. Candidates, who have already spent eight weeks in an oncological ward are preferred.

Duration
The KPY tertial C "Interdisciplinary Oncology" comprises 16 weeks. In order to provide sufficient space for the interdisciplinary aspect of the oncological patient care, the students spend 8 weeks in two different divisions. This rotation is designed to allow students to experience therapy approaches from different aspects.

One of these two eight-week periods should thereby be spent at the university clinic for radiation therapy. Together with a decree of tertial A (internal medicine) and tertial B (surgery), the candidates obtain deep insight into the three pillars of the oncological patient care.
